Study of figures
XVII century. Black chalk on laid paper. Not on display
To the left sits a seated figure at whose feet another one is kneeling in an imploring gesture. To the right, a reclining figure and two standing naked figures are depicted. The figures on the left seem to be detached from the other three. This may be due to the fact that they are simply nude studies.
The style and technique are entirely consistent with Carreño’s and are comparable to several loose sketches in the National Library.
