Muñoz Degrain, an artist who focused entirely on landscape, was particularly attracted to Andalusia, setting some of the large-format works of his mature period in the Sierra Nevada. In them, the monumentality of the descriptions conveys a type of symbolism and a literary concept of nature, in which the geographical features emphasise the painter’s fatalistic vision.
