The painter

Raphael is one of the most important Italian painters of the Italian Renaissance.

The Renaissance is an art style from the 15 and 16 centuries in which artists explored ancient Greek and Roman themes

In his paintings, Raphael emphasises the sweetness of faces and gestures, the importance of landscapes and the play of light and shadow.

Before painting this picture, Raphael met the painter Leonardo da Vinci in Rome.

This painting has characteristics of the style of Leonardo, for example, the triangular shape created by the figures in the painting.
