This print reproduces the painting by Jacopo Robusti Tintoretto that was attributed to Titian in the 18th century. It was kept in the Royal Palace in Madrid and is now located in the Museo del Prado (P378). Manuel Esquivel de Sotomayor engraved the copper plate (Calcografía Nacional, Madrid, R. 2731) – for which he charged 5,000 reales – with a drawing by Agustín Esteve (Calcografía Nacional, Madrid, Inv. 297). The print is part of the series published by the Company for the engraving of the paintings of the Royal Palaces. For more on this series, see the commentary regarding print G4.
