The sculptor Miguel Blay with his son
Ca. 1918. Autochrome on glass plaque.Room 060
This portrait of the sculptor Miguel Blay (1866–1936) and his son is a stereoscopic autochrome. Patented by the Lumière brothers, the autochrome was the first colour photographic process, which enjoyed great success amongst professionals and amateurs alike, despite its high cost. Father and son are pictured sitting on a bench with ceramic decoration, located in the hotel-studio that the artist had built on Calle del Pinar in Madrid, where the family moved around 1911.
