This drawing depicts the study of three dogs. The first two – one seated and the other lying – were done in preparation for the tapestry Fishermen and Huntsmen, the cartoon for which was painted in 1775 and is currently held by in the Ministry of Agriculture. The third dog, standing and facing forwards, was done in preparation for the corresponding figure in the tapestry Huntsman aiming at a Bird, the cartoon for which was painted in 1775.
