View of an Imaginary Seaport
Late XVIII century. Wood.Room 089
An imaginary city, with large, ornate buildings and a mountain in the background on the right, opens onto the sea via a port with a lighthouse and a ship. The composition evokes architectural designs for theatrical sets with stage perspectives and building façades of the type produced from the 17th century. The panel recalls 18th-century marquetry scenes although the subject matter is not typical of the Ravellis and it is not listed among the works associated with them, neither as a framed scene nor as a decorative motif for furniture.
