Windmills (Holland)
Ca. 1884. Oil.Not on display
On the left, hidden by the branches of a tree, is the entrance to a rustic hut enclosed by a stockade fence. Nearer, the rickety body of a mill can be seen, covered at its base by a mass of trees, which only reveals the upper part of the windmill and the gears of its worn blades. In front, some broken trunks are visible, and, on the field, the traces of a half-dried stream. To the right, in the distance, a wooded grove stands out against an overcast sky. A work locate in the Museo Jaime Morera in Lérida depicts a landscape of the same setting by the Catalan painter, although the framing is a little further away and there are clear differences in the areas of the sky and in the foregrounds.
