In a certain sense I got involved with the management of the architectural renovation of the Casón del Buen Retiro, and immediately afterwards, when Miguel Zugaza arrived and I was appointed Assistant Director, I also had to take on the management of the Moneo Extension. Once again, I had to spend endless hours with the architects, the engineers and the lighting technicians. So, the second set of plans I had to pore over corresponded to those of the expansion of the Museo del Prado. It was then that a very important decision was taken, one that would be quite fundamental to the future of the Museum, namely that of incorporating the nineteenth century collections into the Villanueva Building and setting aside the Casón del Buen Retiro for the Studies Centre.
Head of the Department of Conservation, pertaining to the Department of the 19th Century. He was the Head of the Department of 19th Century Art from 1992 to 2002. He was appointed General Assistant Director of Conservation in 2002 and held that position until 2006. He has been the Director of the Spanish National Heritage Royal Collections since 2014.
