The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published in a Spanish and an English edition. It includes two essays, entries on all the works and a selection of texts on Picasso’s relationship with the great masters of the past. The first essay is by the exhibition’s curator, Francisco Calvo Serraller, and focuses on Picasso’s dual perspective on tradition and modernity. The second, by Jorge Semprún, looks at Guernica and the history of the period. Given that the works in question are examples of modern art, the entries by curators at the Museo del Prado and the Reina Sofía are innovative in that they are written in the manner of short essays of the type normally used for entries on Old Master paintings.
