The Myth of Diana and Callisto in a Late Eighteenth‑Century Painting
Live video (in Spanish) with Clara González Freyre de Andrade (@claramore_), art historian and author of the book Nos recordarán, discussing the work "Diana and Callisto", a painting by Jean‑Baptiste‑Marie Pierre dated between 1745 and 1749.
Clara González Freyre de Andrade explains the myth of the goddess Diana (Artemis in Greek mythology) and Callisto, the most beautiful of her nymphs. In this story—which was also painted by artists such as Titian and Rubens—Jupiter (or Zeus) plays a fundamental role through one of his many transformations.
