See author's fileAlthough the landscape, treated with notable luminous liveliness, seems to be more important in the painting than the motif of the child, it is the child who gives the composition its title and demonstrates the artist´s interest in the small, inconsequential anecdote. The child has slipped and fallen to the ground, while the apples –perhaps stolen– appear rolling on the ground. The companion contemplates the incident with a certain mockery.
