This is a copy of the original portrait held in the Museo de Bellas Artes in Valencia. The original portrait was once credited to Alonso Sánchez Coello, although it is now attributed to the Belgian painter Roland des Mois.
The portrait depicts Fernando de Aragón y Borja (Pedrola, Zaragoza, 1546–Miranda de Ebro, Burgos, 1592), son of Martín de Gurrea y Aragón (P03451) and Luisa de Borja y Aragón. He was Lord of Pedrola, 5th Duke of Villahermosa. In 1581 he was appointed Count of Ribagorza under the name of Fernando II de Ribagorza.
