Head for the figure of an Apostle

This is a preparatory drawing for one of the Apostle figures in the midground in the lower left part of the canvas The Assumption of the Virgin, located in the Main Altarpiece of the parish church of Valdemoro in Madrid. The Museo Camón Aznar in Zaragoza keeps a preparatory sketch, and the Museo del Prado has several other related drawings. The head is studied in detail and is depicted facing forwards, bearded and with his gaze lowered. Among other preparatory drawings, the Museum keeps the study of the figure’s body (D000578).
