Octavia Bouchet

Ca. 1860. Oil on panel.
Not on display

Octavia Bouchet Ipschier (Bordeaux, circa 1828–Madrid, 1897), originally from France, married the magistrate and journalist Felipe Picón García. Their son Jacinto Octavio Picón Bouchet was a lawyer and writer. Their grandson Jacinto Felipe Picón y Pardiñas was an art critic and patron of the Museo de Arte Moderno. This is a bust-length portrait, in which the portrayed person is facing the front.

Both the modelling of the face and the impasto brushstrokes, as in the collar of the blouse, for example, are unusual in the painter´s technique, even in his moments of freest execution.
