The Eucharistic Saviour
1520 - 1530. Oil on panel.Room 052C
The composition is derived from Leonardo’s image of the Salvator Mundi, known through numerous versions, which Yáñez echoed on various occasions, always with variants. The presence of a chalice and host emphasises the eucharistic and redemptive significance of the original image, inaugurating a formula that was to prove very successful in Spanish art, especially in Valencia.
