1784. Oil on canvas. On display elsewhere
This work was made from a sketch on canvas by Mariano Salvador Maella (1739–1819), also located in the Museo del Prado collections (P875). It is part of a set of cartoons for the tapestries intended to decorate the rooms of the Prince and Princess of Asturias in the Palace of El Pardo in Madrid. This is one of the ten designs with seafaring themes which were commissioned for the Pieza de Damas in the Princess´s Bedroom. The tapestry made from this cardboard is currently located in the Salón de Consejillos –the official outer office of the Palace of El Pardo– (PN-10072420).
