This painting belongs to a collection of papeboard for the tapestries destined to decorate the rooms of the Princes of Asturias in the Palace of El Pardo in Madrid. A series of ten designs with seafaring themes were commissioned for the Ladies´ Piece in the Princess´s Room, this being one of them. The tapestry made from this papeboard is currently in the Palace of the Bourbons in the Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
