Luis Jiménez Aranda
Sevilla (Spain), 21.6.1845 - Pontoise (France), 1928His contribution to social realism painting is noteworthy, a genre that reached its climax at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1889, where Luis Jiménez Aranda obtained the first medal with his work "A hospital ward during the visit of the chief doctor". This recognition favored the diffusion of the movement in Spain, and was reflected in the fact that social realism would replace historical works at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid in 1892, where again Luis Jiménez Aranda won the First Class Medal.
