My name is Conchi Montero Velasco and I joined the Museo del Prado in 1966 when I was seventeen years old. The person who took me on was Antoñita [Antonia Magán Herrera], who was in charge of the cafeteria. There were fifteen or sixteen people working there, and she told me she’d try me out for fifteen days because I was very young. My cousin told her: “Try her out! No commitment! If she’s no good to you then she leaves. No problem!” So after the first fifteen days, when the trial period was over, the boss told me I was a one hundred per cent good worker and I could stay without any problem. And I worked at the cafeteria for twenty years. After that we were moved to the halls and I worked as a hall supervisor for more than twenty years. And I retired when I was sixty-five, which means I worked for the Museo del Prado for almost fifty years.
She began working at the Museum as a waitress, then going on to work for gallery security, with a brief period of time at the admissions desk.
