Javier Solana Madariaga, Trustee of the Museo del Prado, 2019-What's on
The first Chairman of the Board of Trustees I appointed, the only one I appointed as Minister, was Justino de Azcárate. He was a family friend, a man of culture and he had served as a Senator in the constituent assembly. All of the Boards of Trustees that have existed, and that I have experienced, have fulfilled the mission that was asked of them. And that mission is to provide support. The Trustees are there to help the Prado fulfil its potential to the full, either in terms of resources or by facilitating government grants, budgets, legal aspects, etc. I believe all of the Boards have carried out their work in a responsible manner, as have the Chairmen themselves. I recall a number of them … Uría, Eduardo Serra, who was the one who worked on the Prado’s Statute of Autonomy; I also recall my great friend, Plácido Arango, who did many things for the Prado, many more than people are aware of, and who has just crowned his contribution by making an extraordinary donation to the Prado.
Minister of Culture from 1982 to1988. Since 2010 he is Member of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Museo del Prado, and he was appointed Chairman of this organization on July 11, 2019.
