Pilar Silva Maroto, Head of the Department of Conservation of Flemish Painting and the Northern Schools up to 1700, 1997-2017

Before many painters had their own hall, and even before the Centenary was staged for Berruguete in the year 2003, in which a marvellous exhibition was staged at Paredes de Nava for which I was the curator, Pedro Berruguete had a hall all to himself at the Museo del Prado. And, for the moment, he still does.
Not everybody knows Pedro Berruguete and not everybody loves him, but I can remember [Diego] Angulo saying that he loved Berruguete, as well as other people, and that under the heading of Spanish painting, the order was Pedro Berruguete, El Greco, Velázquez and Goya.

Professor of the Department of Art, School of Geography and History, of the Universidad Complutense of Madrid; she worked as Head of the Departments of Spanish Painting (1100-1500) and of Flemish Painting and the Northern Schools up to 1700.
