El maestro de papel. Cartillas españolas para aprender a dibujar de los siglos XVII y XVIII

Museo Nacional del Prado. Madrid 10/15/2019 - 2/2/2020

Calendar Add to the calendar

This exhibition will place particular emphasis on Spanish drawing manuals of the 17th and 18th centuries, locating them in their international context. Although few in number they are particularly important, not just because they rapidly reflected this new tradition in art but also because they are notably from the outset for their distinctive Spanish and on occasions innovative character, as well as for the presence of unique elements that denote their national origin.

Notable among Spanish artists in this field are Pedro de Villafranca y Malagón and prior to him, José de Ribera. Also notable are the manuals by José García Hidalgo, Friar Matías de Irala and José López Enguídanos.
