Mariano Fortuny (1838-1874)

Museo Nacional del Prado. Madrid 11/21/2017 - 3/18/2018

Calendar Add to the calendar

To be displayed in Rooms A and B of the Prado’s Jerónimos Building, this exhibition will be a particularly exceptional and unrepeatable one due to its focus on all the different phases within Fortuny’s career as a painter, watercolourist, draughtsman and printmaker, while also giving special emphasis to the influence on his work of the great painters that he studied in the Prado. In addition, the exhibition will devote a separate section to Fortuny’s atelier, where he housed his exquisite collection of works of art and archaeological items.

Together with works from the Prado’s own collection, such as The Painter’s Children in the Japanese Room, visitors will be able to see others rarely loaned by the institutions that house them, such as The Spanish Wedding (MNAC) and The Choice of a Model (National Gallery of Art, Washington).
