A Waterfall of Permanently Frozen Ice in Rosenlaui (Switzerland) (study)
1862. Oil on canvas.Room 062B
When Rico went to the Swiss Alps in the summer of 1862, the grandeur of the natural world of the high mountains and the company of the Swiss painter Alexander Calame, who had worked in the area, stimulated him to depict this subject. He used this study of a detail to execute a composition now only known from the wood engraving reproduced here.
