Crucified Christ
1648. Pencil on laid paper. Not on display
Christ is depicted crucified and facing forwards, with his head raised towards the right part of the drawing. A skull sits at the foot of the cross. It was attributed to Luis Tristán in the Lefort Collection, but the date precludes the attribution to this artist, who died in 1624. The nature of the nude, the treatment of the wood of the cross and the handling of the pen are very reminiscent of The Pietà by Pereda in the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Consequently, this allows for the attribution to the artist from Valladolid with a certain degree of confidence.
