This ewer was part of the toiletry case belonging to Ferdinand VII, King of Spain. It was found in the Toilet of His Majesty in the so-called Resting Rooms of the Real Museo. It is part of an ewer and basin set O002763/003. It is a silver-coloured jug, except for the handle, which is gilded. The handle is in the shape of a mermaid with a scaly, foliaceous tail and butterfly wings. The mythological figure holds a bunch of grapes in her hands and her head is topped with a crown of vine shoots. The jug’s body is decorated with incised designs forming a garland of flowers and leaves on the upper part and a crown of alocasia (elephant-ear) leaves on the lower part.
