Travel Toiletry Case Belonging to Ferdinand VII, King of Spain
1820 - 1825.Not on display
This toiletry case is made of wood and brass and contains a dressing-table mirror, a gilt silver basin, two glasses, a bowl and a bottle with four compartments. There is also a toothbrush made of gilt silver and a small bronze box for toothpaste that complements the so-called Toilet of His Majesty (O002764). Although it is not documented in the inventory at the time of the King’s death, it seems that it may have been a gift to Ferdinand VII, King of Spain, since this type of case became very common throughout the 19th century. Given the characteristics of the pieces that comprise it, it could be a French work produced between 1820–25. Therefore, it would fit within the years of his reign.
