This is a preparatory drawing for the head of an angel intended for the fresco The Orders of the Spanish Monarchy, in the King’s Bedroom, now known as the Tapestry Hall, located in the Royal Palace in Madrid. The Museo del Prado keeps a chiaroscuro sketch (P002481) and various related drawings. This one is a study of a male head, in three-quarter length and turned to the left.
