This is a preparatory drawing for the figure of a lioness in the lower part of the central register of the fresco The Orders of the Spanish Monarchy, in the King’s Bedroom, now called the Tapestry Room, at the Royal Palace in Madrid. The Museo del Prado keeps a chiaroscuro sketch (P002481) and several related preparatory drawings. This drawing studies the head of the mammal, depicted with its jaws open.
