Sermon in the field
1855. Oil on canvas. Not on display
On the right, there is a priest who is holding a crucifix in his left hand and blessing with his right hand. The moving mass of his devotees stand in a circle. In a burlesque manner, this work matches in theme, quality, and size with the Sermon of the masks (P04417). The work follows the Goyaesque style and has impastoed brushstrokes.
