Study of a Fleeing Male Nude
1812 - 1813. White chalk, Pencil on brown prepared paper, laid paper. Not on display
In this preparatory study for the fleeing figure of Zephyrus in Apollo and Hyacinthus, Madrazo explores from a Realist standpoint the volumes of the back, thighs and feet, focusing especially on the wings, which are larger and more butterfly-like than in the final version. It includes a sketch, later discarded, of the fleeing Zephyrus, reflecting the creative process that culminated in the final composition of the figure.
