I had already had some contact with the two Chairmen of the previous Boards of Trustees; with both Eduardo Serra and Rodrigo Uría, who played a crucial role in the years when the possibility of the Prado’s expansion was debated and discussed. I don’t think it was in Uría’s time when I joined the Board of Trustees. It must have been afterwards. I was able to see how the Museum is managed through the Board. I came to understand that many people granted as much importance to their public lives as they did to their private lives, and that the Prado was one of the elements of greatest interest to them, which really made the Board meetings very pleasant. I would even go as far as to say that some of the meetings were veritably balsamic compared to the tumultuous meetings that tend to take place at Spanish institutions. I believe an institution such as the Prado impresses upon one and all a feeling of obligatory respect, one that goes beyond any personal interests.
Trustee of the Friends of the Museo del Prado Foundation since 1994, he is responsible for the Jerónimos extension from 2000 to 2007.
