We are a private foundation governed by the Law of Foundations and subject to the controls undertaken by the body which oversees foundations.
However, when Plácido Arango was a Trustee we also drew up an agreement that again ensures exactly this: an agreement in which there is also a monitoring committee for the Fundación and the Museum itself. It meets two, three or four times a year and looks at precisely what money we have been raising, how we use it, the amount that we donate on the basis of that agreement, and our own accounts. So aside from being subject to the Law of Foundations we are also controlled by the Board itself and the Museum. I believe that this has ensured that the relationship is a totally transparent and open one and as such totally fluid. This benefits us all: from our side because we can contribute more money and more educational proposals, as I said, and from the Museum’s because it can benefit more from all of this.
Member of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Museo del Prado, appointed personally in 1993. On December 2, 1996, with the enactment of the royal decree modifying the composition of the Royal Board of Trustees ex officio membership, he became an ex officio member as the chairman of the Friends of the Museo del Prado Foundation, a position that he has held since 1988.
