María García was a fantastic person whose conversation was extremely agreeable and witty. Her friendliness and mental agility were amusing. I remember she once told me that she took part in radio programmes; she used to ring in and offer her opinions and it was brilliant. In later years she lost some of this because she had a lot of problems and she got quite down. She lost some of that spark she used to have, although something always survives. I haven’t seen her in the parties for retired staff. Her husband Pepe, who’s a really lovely person and the father of David, usually comes but she doesn’t any more.
Fausto Hernández was the funniest person you could imagine as he was always telling jokes. Some female colleagues didn’t get on with him because he was very saucy and used to tell the typical rude jokes. I found him funny because he was like a naughty boy. On one occasion a colleague said to me, “You know, I don’t like Fausto”, and I told her that she’d get to know and like him: “Don’t worry, don’t take him seriously.” Finally, after I had taken partial retirement, she confirmed it: “You know, it’s true that Fausto’s very nice and pleasant.” “What it is, is that he likes winding up women”, I replied.
Conchi Laguna was also very nice and her husband Diego was adorable. I knew them from the galleries. They retired before us and I haven’t heard from them again. Diego was delightful and Conchi, who adored her husband, was also really nice. She was more open than Diego. There’ve been really great people at the Museum.
She worked at the Museo del Prado as a gallery attendant from 1990 to 2013. She also worked for some time at the information desk and at the admissions desk.
