This is a preparatory drawing for the figure of an apostle in the central part of the composition of The Saint Peter Altarpiece in the Chapel of Saint Peter in Toledo Cathedral. Two preparatory sketches are extant: one in a private collection and the other in Toledo Cathedral. The Museo del Prado keeps several related preparatory drawings for the same canvas.

The figure is depicted standing, facing forwards with his head tilted downwards. His right arm gathers the clothing, while the left is raised.
