This is a preparatory drawing for the figure in the foreground on the left of the composition of The Saint Peter Altarpiece in the Chapel of Saint Peter in Toledo Cathedral. Two preparatory sketches are extant: one in a private collection and the other in Toledo Cathedral. The Museo del Prado keeps several related preparatory drawings for the same canvas. This is a study of a right arm in the foreground, with the two hands joined in an act of prayer. It is a detailed study for the drawing Male Figure (D000358).
