This is a preparatory drawing for the figure in the foreground on the right of the composition of The Saint Peter Altarpiece, located in the chapel of Saint Peter in Toledo Cathedral. Two preparatory sketches are extant: one is in a private collection and the other in Toledo Cathedral. The Museo del Prado keeps several related preparatory drawings for the same canvas. The figure is depicted standing, in left profile and with his left arm outstretched. The study of the clothing is very thorough, while the limbs are barely sketched.
