Frame of The Finding of Moses
1751 - 1753. Carved, Ensamblado a media madera, Water gilding.Not on display
This Neoclassical frame, dating from the second half of the 18th century, was named after the court painter who designed it, Andrés de la Calleja. It was commissioned in 1748 by Ferdinand VI in order to give the paintings at the New Royal Palace in Madrid a more uniform appearance. It was later also used to frame pictures at the Buen Retiro Palace, and is thus one of the most distinctive frames in the Royal Collection, as well as one of the most common in the Museo del Prado.
