Hawthorns in bloom. Plantío de los Infantes
1911. Oil on canvas. Not on display
This work is the result of the experience the artist acquired in his travels throughout Europe. It belongs to his last creative stage, which is characterized by a looser brushstroke, a softer palette and open compositions that link him directly to impressionism. He thus departs from the dark colours, flat and impastoed brushstrokes and detail that characterized his earlier works. There are hardly any figures in his work and, if any, they are almost negligible. The focus is on vegetation.
