Male heads
1781. White chalk, Black chalk on green paper. Not on display
These are two preparatory studies of heads, depicted in three-quarters length to the right and foreshortened when seen from below. The drawing was done in preparation for the figure of Adam in the cupola interior Regina Patriarcharum in the Basilica of Our Lady of Pilar in Zaragoza, painted in 1871. The Museo del Prado keeps three other preparatory drawings for this cupola interior: Saint Francis (D003226), Saint Romuald and Saint Francis Xavier (D000604), and Young angel (D000445).
