This is a preparatory study for the corresponding figures executed for the cupola facing the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist of the Regina Patriarcharum, painted in 1871 and located in the Basilica of the Pilar in Zaragoza.
It is preparatory drawing for the figure of one of the angels that holds the cloak of the Virgin on the cupola interior of the Regina Patriarcharum. The latter was painted in 1871 and is located in the Basilica of the Pilar of Zaragoza. The study depicts the angel in a flying pose. The study of the clothing is very thorough.
The Museo del Prado keeps three other preparatory drawings for this cupola interior: Saint Francis (D003226), Saint Romuald and Saint Francis Xavier (D000604) and Male Heads (D003279).
