Saint Romuald and Saint Francis Xavier

This is a preparatory study for the corresponding figures on the cupola in the chapel of Saint John the Baptist Regina Patriarcharum, painted in 1871 and located in the Basilica of the Pilar in Zaragoza. Both are depicted standing almost facing forwards, with their arms open in an expression of astonishment.
The Museo del Prado keeps three other preparatory drawings for this cupola: Saint Francis (D003226), Young Angel (D000445) and Male Heads (D003279).
