My name is Guadalupe Montserrat Sabán Godoy, although at the Museum they’ve always known me as Montse. But my Christian name is Guadalupe. I joined the Museum in late 1978 or early 1979. I joined in order to carry out my work experience in museum studies, which were required at the time in order to be able to compete for the conservator positions. It consisted in passing through the different departments at the Museum over a period of one year. You didn’t earn anything for it. Later on, they stopped demanding this work experience for the State exams for these positions. Some time passed and when they announced the next set of State exams, they no longer demanded work experience in museology. So, in principle, it didn’t do me much good. But as an enriching experience it was great, because I came into contact with the Prado, working on different things relating to the Museum.
She joined the Museo del Prado with one year of experience as a trainee, later going on to review the material of the permanent collection ("Prado disperso"). She joined the Temporary Exhibition Service and later worked in the Permanent Collection where it is responsible for remodeling the rooms and controlling the movements of the works of art.
