I had a close friend who left, Piedad Espinosa de los Monteros. She was under contract, but there was a period during which they stopped contracting her services, so she got fed up and left. But I’m still in contact with her. She spoke English and French very well, even a little German. That enabled her to handle the official visits. There was also another girl who did them, Inmaculada Álvarez Espejo, who was there for a while catering for the official visitors. I also began to do these visits. The first exhibition where I worked as a guide took place shortly after I joined the Museum, during my work experience year or the following year, and it was an exhibition on El Greco. I remember it perfectly. I showed the official visitors round this exhibition every day. We had to show the exhibition to all of the Museum’s official visitors. And another of the first exhibitions I showed people round was the “Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617-1682)” Exhibition in 1982.
She joined the Museo del Prado with one year of experience as a trainee, later going on to review the material of the permanent collection ("Prado disperso"). She joined the Temporary Exhibition Service and later worked in the Permanent Collection where it is responsible for remodeling the rooms and controlling the movements of the works of art.
